Batik

Batik textiles

Batik is a traditional wax-resistance, dyed textile found throughout the Indonesia, but most notably in Java.  Wax is applied to parts of the cloth then dyed, with the parts covered by wax remaining undyed.  Then the cloth is washed, wax removed and dried with new wax applied to other parts of the cloth to ready it for dyeing with another colour.  And so on until intricate designs and patterns are formed.
